The population in the territory of Risnjak National Park is very small. The general demographic trend in the Gorski Kotar region is ongoing depopulation.<\/p>\n
According to the 2001 Census, there are only 61 inhabitants living in a few villages in the area added to Risnjak National Park in 1997 (in contrast to the 82 inhabitants in the same area in 1991). Some villages are now completely deserted.<\/p>\n
There are no more than 20 residents per village, consisting mainly of elderly people. There is a real danger that these hamlets will eventually be deserted as well<\/p>\n
